WA Annual Giving Reports,
Main Entry: Development Office
The Office of Development and Alumni was created in 1961 by Capt.
William R. Brewster. M.C. Paget was the first director (1961-1968)
and Bob Ballentine was the first Public Relations Director in
the 1960s, when he initiated the publications. The Office has
been responsible for Alumni affairs, publications, annual giving,
and other organized fundraising efforts, such as Capital Campaigns.
Over decades the office underwent a number of reorganizations
with numerous directors, systems, and programs. John Anderson
became Vice President for Development in 1990. The Annual Giving
program became more organized, better publicized, and more aggressive
under Anderson after 1990. By 2000, the successful Annual Giving
program was raising over one million dollars.
Scope and Content:
Arranged in chronological order, the collection is divided into
two groups- Annual Reports and Reports to Donors. The Annual Reports
are colorful printed brochures covering years, 1986-1988, 1991-1999.
These reports (26 copies) describe the basic balance sheet of
the school, with emphasis on annual giving campaign money. The
Report to Donors (9 copies) cover only 1985, 1988, and 1998. These
were originally printed and staple-bound and listed the names
of all annual giving donors and the categories of their gifts.
The 1998 report is photocopy only. Also included are two annual
giving pamphlets from 1991 and 1996. The 1991 pamphlet announces
the Lucile and John C. Woodward Society.
