Biographical/Historical Note:
Like most of the other student service clubs, the Junior Civitan Club was created in the early 1970s. Sandra Lewis, an Upper School English teacher, was the club sponsor from 1983 until her retirement in 2001. Under Lewis, the Jr. Civitan Club became very active in a number of service projects. The best known and most successful was the annual canned food drive which was held each November.

Scope and Content:
The collection consists of 16 items which report the “notoriety” of the Junior Civitan Club from 1987-2001. Items include printed magazines, newspaper clippings, and one audio cassette. The majority of the collection consists of eleven copies of Countdown: The Junior Civitan Magazine, which reports the overwhelming success of the clubs annual canned food drive, for which they received national recognition. Also included is one Academy whose cover showed members of the Club dressed as clowns for a service project.
