Presidential Papers and Artifacts of
A. Thomas Jackson, 1990-2000

Main Entry: Presidents, A. Thomas Jackson
Volume:
22 Files, 36 Items

Biographical/Historical Note:
Tom Jackson came to Woodward in 1990 as the school’s fifth president. Jackson had graduated from Williams College and had served in a number of administrative and teaching positions in California, Virginia, and Utah. After leading Woodward through an extensive building program that culminated in the Centennial Celebration, 1999-2000, Jackson retired in July, 2000.

Scope and Content:
The collection is divided into two groups, papers and artifacts. Arranged in chronological order, the papers consist of five school directories (1984-1988, 1997), eight school calendars (1979-1981, 1990-1998), and typed and handwritten pages, principally speeches and correspondence. Texts of opening remarks for school year 1990-1995 and 1998 are included. The papers also include a DAR speech, a Rotary Club speech, and a National Honor Society speech. Correspondence is mostly incoming from Ben Johnson, Chairman of the Governing Board, including a speech by Johnson in 1998 at Emory University. Nine random color photos are included. Artifact items are eclectic memorabilia. Most interesting is a miniature bust of Robert W. Woodruff cast by the same sculptor who made the large school statue, and a framed Olympic pin collection from the Borg-Warner Security Co. which rented school facilities during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
