Collection # DRT-70.1-001

Records of the College Counseling Office,
1983-2002

Main Entry: College Counseling Office
Volume:
13 Files, 12 Bound Items

Biographical/Historical Note:
Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, Woodward had only a very limited program for counseling and assisting graduating seniors with the college admission processes. In the early 1980s, as the school grew and the college admissions processes became more complex and more important, the Upper School Academic Dean’s Office under Roger Sloan began to expand activities associated with college admissions. Missy Sanchez, who came to Woodward in 1977 as a Science teacher, became a part-time college counselor. Soon her role grew significantly and she was appointed the full-time Director of College Counseling. Over the next decades, Sanchez initiated a complex and highly successful counseling program servicing the considerable needs of graduating seniors and their parents, and extending down to the level of underclassmen. By 2002, the College Counseling department boasted five full-time professionals and separate offices in the Consignment Shop house.
