Biographical/Historical Note: 
          The first Development and Alumni publications were initiated in 1961 by Bob Ballentine, the first Public Relations Director.  In addition to publications, the office has been responsible for alumni affairs, annual giving, and other organized fundraising campaigns.  Over decades the office underwent a number of reorganizations with numerous directors, systems, programs, and publications, including Passing In Review, The Woodward Academy Review, and Academy.  Beginning in the early 1980s under R.L. Slider and Sandra Pounds Slider, the Development Office began to publish a newsletter, entitled Aerie, to keep parents better informed about the school.  Although it was formally called “A Publication of the Woodward Academy Parents Club,” the newsletter was published in and distributed from the Development Office.  In 1980 it became the “Woodward Academy Parents Club Newsletter” and in 1991, “ A Publication For the Parents of Woodward Academy.” 

Scope and Content: 
          Arranged in chronological order,  this collection consists of  multi-page printed newsletters, beginning  Winter, 1998, in a 11”x14” format, on white glossy  paper with staple binding. See Collection #DRT-180.2-004 and Collection # DRT-180.2-005 for previous issues.  Systematic archives collection of Aerie began in 1998 and continued through periodic accrual of department records transfer from the Development Office.
