Scrapbook of the Better Halves

a social organization, the Better Halves Club in 1968 became a
service club as well. Consisting of faculty wives, women
teachers and staff members, the Club raised money through a variety
of projects, including a “Birthday Cake Service.” The money
they donated to the school financed playgrounds for faculty children,
redecorated restrooms, and purchased Christmas decorations.
The Club also hosted family social events including square dances.
Scope and Content:
consists of one scrapbook, 16”x10.5”, seventeen pages of letters, color
photos, and newspaper clippings, concerning the activities of the Better
Halves Club, 1968-1970. Of special interest are the clippings and
photos of the Birthday Cake Service and the “Womenless Wedding” social
in February, 1970, in which male faculty members dressed as women.
