Scrapbook of the Better Halves Club, 1968-1970

Main Entry: Development Office                           Volume: 1 Item

 Biographical/Historical Note:
Traditionally a social organization, the Better Halves Club in 1968 became a service club as well.  Consisting of faculty wives, women teachers and staff members, the Club raised money through a variety of projects, including a “Birthday Cake Service.”  The money they donated to the school financed playgrounds for faculty children, redecorated restrooms, and purchased Christmas decorations.  The Club also hosted family social events including square dances.

Scope and Content:
The collection consists of one scrapbook, 16”x10.5”, seventeen pages of letters, color photos, and newspaper clippings, concerning the activities of the Better Halves Club, 1968-1970.  Of special interest are the clippings and photos of the Birthday Cake Service and the “Womenless Wedding” social in February, 1970, in which male faculty members dressed as women.
