Main Entry: Development Office          Volume: 1 Printed Brochure, 1 Video

Historical/Biographical Note:
The Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association was formed in the 1980s to promote patriotism and the interests and image of Vietnam era veterans.  Beginning in 1987, the AVVBA each year constructs and dedicates a memorial to a Vietnam veteran from the Atlanta area who died in action in Southeast Asia.
The eleventh AVVBA Memorial Dedication ceremony was conducted on May 21, 1997 at Woodward Academy to honor US Army Major Joseph A. Bishop.  Major Bishop was a 1953 graduate of Georgia Military Academy and graduated from the US Military Academy in 1957.  He lost his life on 19 September 1968 in a military aircraft crash in Vietnam while serving as a combat engineer officer in I Field Force.  He was posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Air Medal.

Scope and Content:
The collection consists of one eight-page printed brochure ( 8.5x11) and one 15:30 minute VHS video tape.  The brochure, 1997 AVVBA Memorial Ceremony, recounts with pictures and text the dedication of a Vietnam memorial at Woodward, and includes the Robert W. Woodruff Band, Color Guard, and student body.  Entitled the Memorial Presentation Video, the tape recounts the history of a few of the previous AVVBA memorial dedications and the Woodward dedication in an abridged form, set to music only.
