The Office of
Development and Alumni was created in the early 1960s under M.C. Paget
and Bob Ballentine. Over three decades, under the direction of a
number of directors, the Office became more involved in alumni activities
and senior activities. In the late 1980s, the Office began to sponsor
the Senior Breakfast and Senior Slide Shows for the Senior Banquet prior
to graduation. As a result of these activities, the Office of Development
and Alumni became the repository for thousands of photographic slides.
Scope and Content:
chronological/subject order, this large collection of 35mm. photographic
slides covers roughly the period 1961-1996. It is divided into two
major parts. First is prepared slide shows remaining in the original
carousels. There are 13 full or partially full carousels which were
prepared for class reunions or senior breakfasts ( Classes of ‘73, ‘83,
‘88, ‘89, ‘95, ‘96).
The second part
of the collection consists of loose slides, organized by year and subject,
such as student scenes, sports, faculty and staff, Alumni, etc. Of
these 2,147 slides, the majority are student candid shots.
1,500 of the slides are from the 1980s. The collection also includes
small numbers of slides of the Busey Campus, WATV, undated graduations,
faculty, and 400 slides of campus building over decades. Also
of interest are five slides of Newt Gingrich addressing students.
