Collection # DRT-60.1-001
GMA Diplomas/Certificates and
WA Diploma, 1950s-1970s
Main Entry: Upper School- Principal
Volume: 11 Items (48 Pieces)
The Upper School
Principal’s office is responsible for planning and implementing graduation
procedures and exercises. Items in this collection were found in
the Upper School vault.
Scope and Content:
of 48 pieces is composed entirely of printed diplomas and certificates
from GMA in the 1950s and Woodward in the 1970s. There are two types
of GMA diplomas- a larger one from the ‘50s and a smaller one from the
‘60s. Some of the GMA documents are completely blank with no dates,
while some are blank with dates and signed by D.C. Woodward and others
by James Colquitt (after 1957 when he was appointed Chairman of the Board).
Some have names and dates which were in error in some way, such as misspelling,
or dates. The “Post-Graduate Certificate” was given to students who
spent an extra year preparing for the military academies or military service.
The WA diploma is very typical of the diplomas awarded through the mid-1990s.
